Well,… I might not be a scientist,… Merely a member of the general public.
But in my many years of having enjoyed the splendors of this magnificent planet…
I have clearly felt the weather has been changing these last decades… Not only in my local area, but also when traveling around the globe, to friends, family and my favorite holiday spots.
Do not for one second presume that the ‘general public’ is ignorant about this issue.
Global warming is - at this very moment - already effecting people’s lives and futures in very drastic ways. For example: every week, approx. 4 Australian farmers take their own life, because of the harsh drought that has gripped this country now for several years. It is only getting worse, and in their desperation, they see no other way out of it…
If it were not for the very obvious changes to the weather, that everyone is witnessing and experiencing around the world today; the complicated science of global warming simply would not ‘stick’. It would just float above the heads and minds of ‘the general public’ without having the slightest effect on the way we choose to live our lives… No matter how often it was repeated. Those who still deny global warming is real and is happening right now… should urgently stop staring at their glaring screens in search of the truth (or a second of ‘fame by controversy’), and just step outside to discover the real world.
Talk to the old folks… Ask us what it used to be like. We are the living witnesses. We can prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that things have changed so much in just a lifetime. No science, just good old wisdom from experience… and decades of travel snapshots ;-)
One can also claim that the Holocaust never occurred.
This guy is probably a conservative. Since the "Skeptical Environmentalist" made a similar case and lost, I have stopped reading this nonsense. It's not worth entertaining any longer. It would be wonderful to be 'maybe wrong'... but, we certainly can't count on it.
I suppose the occasional "debunk" effort keeps us focused on the issue at least.
It's not a "guy" but a group of scientists. Actually there are tons of them who signed on stating that attempting to change the climate based on flawed computer modeling was crazy.
And I have yet to hear what you, the believers, propose to do to stop climactic changes.
A list of Nobel Laureates who signed a statement on global warming can be found here. I counted 102.
Global warming deniers, on the other hand, tend to be industry hacks -- these 'Friends of Science' being a prime example.
"It seems that the professional pasts of some members of Canadian climate change spin machine “Friends of Science” go well beyond the oil and gas industry.
But I'm sure they would be interested to know that you consider them all "industry hacks".
It's likely it wouldn't be the first time they've heard it, so I doubt they'd be interested.
If it's all a matter of numbers to you, there's this:
"In 1988, the United Nations Environment Programme and
the World Meteorological Organization set up the Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to examine the most current scientific
information on global warming and climate change. More than 2,500 of
the world's leading climate scientists, economists, and risk experts
contributed to the panel's most recent report, Climate Change 2001: The Third Assessment Report."
Wisco, this has nothing to do with numbers and everything to do with debunking the "consensus" meme that liberals and the media are constantly on about. There is no consensus.

Dr. Fred Seitz, listed as a member of the Friends of Science at the inaugural oil industry funded Ottawa kick-off, has admitted to helping tobacco giant RJ Reynolds spread out million of dollars in health research grants
during the 1970’s and 80’s. Seitz’s role was to assist Big Tobacco in
creating the illusion that there was still some debate over whether
tobacco was a proven danger to health." -- Friends of Science; Friends of Tobacco

This is only an appeal to Prime Minister Harper. But I'm sure they would be interested to know that you consider them all "industry hacks".
