Dozens of seal hunt vessels are stranded in thick packs of ice off Newfoundland's northeast coast and according to Canadian coast guard officials they could remain there for another week. The crew from at least 10 vessels has been evacuated, but there are at least 100 vessels stuck in ice floes that might not move because of weather conditions. The coast guard says it is worried about dwindling supplies of food and fuel. The Newfoundland portion of the Canadian seal hunt is the third and largest portion of the controversial hunt. The total quota for all the phases is 270,000 animals.
