National aviation chief Ichsan Tatang told the Associated Press that he couldn't confirm earlier reports that 12 people survived Monday's crash into the mountainous region of Indonesia's Sulawesi island.

Rescue teams found the smouldering wreckage of the Boeing 737-400 jetliner early Tuesday. It had been carrying 102 people on a domestic flight from Java island to Sulawesi.
