Eleven Palestinians have died in fighting between Fatah and Hamas amid a fresh spate of shootings and mortar attacks in the Gaza Strip.

The sustained clashes on Friday took place on what should have been the fourth day of a ceasefire between the rival groups.

Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president and Khaled Meshaal, the exiled Hamas political chief, have reportedly agreed to meet in Saudi Arabia next Tuesday in the presence of Saudi's King Abdullah, in a effort to end the violence.
