Corporal Stephane Monette, a cook from the 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI) based out of Edmonton, prepares dinner in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Cpl Monette is deployed as a member of the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in support of Operation ARCHER and is originally from Montreal.
Canada is extending its military presence with the deployment of a Canadian-led PRT to Kandahar, in southern Afghanistan to reinforce the authority of the Afghan Government in and around Kandahar and will assist in the stabilization of the region.
Approximately 1000 Canadian Forces personnel are deployed to Kabul and Kandahar as part of Joint Task Force Afghanistan (JTF-A). The JTF-A will continue to maintain a secure and stable environment in the Kabul area of operations in the period leading to and shortly following the National Afghanistan Parliamentary Election (NAE).

Le Caporal Stephane Monette, un cuisinier du 3e Bataillon, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI) à la BFC Edmonton, prépare le déjeuner, à Kandahar (Afghanistan). Le Cpl Monette, originaire de Montréal, fait partie de l’équipe provinciale de reconstruction (EPR) déployée dans le cadre de l’opération Archer.
Le Canada prolonge la présence de ses militaires à Kandahar, dans le sud de l’Afghanistan, en y déployant une EPR dirigée par des Canadiens afin de renforcer l’autorité du gouvernement afghan à Kandahar et dans ses environs, et travaillera à la stabilisation de la situation dans la région.
Environ 1 000 membres des Forces canadiennes sont déployés à Kaboul et à Kandahar dans le cadre de la Force opérationnelle interarmées en Afghanistan (FOIA). La FOIA continuera d’assurer un environnement sûr et stable dans la zone d’opérations de Kaboul pendant la période menant aux élections parlementaires nationales en Afghanistan et peu après celles ci.
