Update: A Spanish-language media outlet says that a weekend briefing with McCann family representatives closed out all but U.K. reporters. The briefers, however, said that it was designed to explain Portugese law to British journalists.

Update:

The Times of London has a new feature on the key questions surrounding Madeleine's disappearance. The answers now known to the public show that there are many gaps in the story so far.

This story is going to cause even wider debate.

The Guardian has a timeline of key events in the Madeleine case.

A Portuguese prosecutor will consider whether to bring charges against the British parents of a missing four-year-old girl, reports said Monday, as police were expected to file papers outlining their case against the couple.

Britain's Press Association reported Monday that police were ready to hand over the results of their inquiry to Portuguese prosecutor Jose Cunha de Magalaes e Meneses, who will then consider charges against Kate and Gerry McCann.

PEP, thanks for getting this story out so quickly. It will now show up on the home page for four hours. If new developments justify it, I'll renew this flag for another cycle.

I have to say that this is moving a lot faster than I thought it would, particularly given the pace of the investigation to date.
