Chief Justice of Pakistan was
accorded a warm and enthusiastic welcome here on
Saturday while he was on his way to Lahore by road.
Carrying petals of roses & garlands, waving banners
with words glorifying the daring stand of the chief
justice inscribed on them, people from almost all
walks of life began to pour onto the Grand Trunk Road
in the early morning. Breaking down all sorts of
barricades & blockades, and cordon of police, chanting
slogans in favour of the CJ and against the government
& the president, they thronged at different junctions
on the dual carriageway to welcome the CJ.
People which included lawyers from Gujar Khan,
Chakwal, Talagang  and Abbotabad, political leaders
and workers of opposition parties, especially of PML
(N) and PPP, members of local religious and commercial
organisations, general public gathered at four main
places on the G. To Road within the territorial
jurisdiction of Tehsil Gujar Khan. Even though , a
railway crossing on the Mandra- Chakwal was closed and
there were three police pickets on the road to stop
the people from approaching G. T. road, lawyers from
Chakwal were still able to barge their way through the
obstacles and , gathered at Chakwal More near Mandra,
leaders and workers of PML (N) gathered near the
residence of former provincial minister and senior
vice president, PML (N), Punjab,Chaudary Muhammad
Riaz, and those of PPP near a railway bridge and
lawyers from Gujar Khan gathered near an overhead
bridge in front of building of Gujar Khan Bar
Association office.
As the chief justice’s motorcade reached
at the Chakwal More, the waiting but enthusiastic
crowd rushed to the car of the chief justice to catch
a glimpse of him. They shouted full-throated slogans,
and scattered petals on his van. Because of strict
security measure taken by the law-enforcing agencies,
the people were not allowed to shake hands with the
CJ. The emotional and out-of-hand mob which included
lawyers from Chakwal even kissed the car of the chief
justice and some of them climbed on the roof the car.
The caravan stopped there for about 20 minutes and
then moved on towards Gujar Khan.
Outside the residence of former provincial
minister Chaudary Muhammad Riaz, a sizeable crowd of
the PML (N) workers received the chief justice.  Those
who received the chief justice at the point included
Chaudary Muhammad Riaz himself, his brother and former
PML(N) MNA Chaudary Khurshid Zaman, Tehsil President
PML(N)  Mirza Saleem Akram. The workers and leaders
strew petals and garlands on the car of the chief
justice and chanted slogans in favour of the chief
justice and against General Pervez Musharraf.
Another group of   PPPP workers led by PPP
leaders Secretary General PPPP Raja Pervez Ashraf, two
local PPP MPAs Raja Traiq Kiani and Brigadier (retd)
Hassan , received the caravan at a railway bridge near
Sarwar Shaheed (N.H) Govt. College , Gujar Khan.
There, fighting erupted between the workers of PML (N)
and PPP when a PPP worker hit at the car of Tehsil
President PML (N) Mirza Saleem Akram and the glass of
the car. About five persons were injured in this
brawl.
As the caravan marched on, it snowballed
until it reached near the office of Gujar Kahn Bar
Association (GBA), it had swelled into a mammoth
gathering. There were people and people everywhere.
The people had even climbed on the two overhead
bridges to catch glimpse of the chief justice from
above there.  There, lawyers of GBA headed by general
secretary GBA Syed Tayyab Raza Kazmi were waiting for
the chief justice. They chanted slogans: “Move a step
forward Iftikhar Chaudary, We are with you” ( Qadim
Barao Iftikhar Chaudary, ham tumarey sath hain), and
“Go, Musharraf, Go”.
The caravan of the chief justice
stayed for about 30 minutes near GBA office. And then
it marched on towards Sohawa where the lawyers were
awaiting the arrival of the chief justice impatiently.

There were heavy contingents of police including
traffic police  were escorting the caravan of the
chief justice. City police officer &, superintendent
of police, Rawalpindi , deputy superintend of police,
Gujar Khan,  station house officers of the all the
three police stations of Gujar Khan Police Circle were
present on the occasion of this road journey.
