Choosing Life

I took this on Saturday, and I was not sure about posting it today when I feel so sad and when everyone is thinking and talking about the tragedy at Virginia Tech.Life can be seen as a series of tragedies sometimes. And I will never ever be able to comprehend how humans can be so brilliant and loving and full of grace in some moments, and so evil and full of rage in others. It seems human nature is split sometimes.All I can do is pray and yes, shed tears, and continue on. For me, I will choose to focus on the beauty that will shine out of Virginia as we see a community come together in despair, to help one another and love one another while they heal. Those connections, those acts of real love and faith that life will continue on in the midst of unspeakable horror: that is what I have to hold onto. That is what I have to hold up as a reminder to myself that the human race is not a total fucking waste. I used to spend far too much time being upset over what was wrong with the world. I am not blind to it now, but putting all my energy into trying to change things and being angry about things only hurt me and made me want to stop living. Today I must choose to smile so that I do not choose to die.
