Brilliant and hilarious - and the engineers suggest that the work might last 5000 years. I can just imagine future archaeologists wondering just what the hell had been in those barrels.

In a break with their usual temporary installations, the artist Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude have unveiled a plan to build a giant pyramid of oil barrels in the desert of the United Arab Emirates.

Wacky though these projects seem on paper, their actual presence is quite amazing. I saw The Gates in Central park the other year, and it was brilliant.
