After a celebration when the European Championships concluded in Gothenburg recently, three well known Swedish former track and field athletes, Patrik Sjöberg (still European record holder in pole vault at 2.42 meters), Sven Nylander and Patrik Löfgren tested positive for drugs in a surprise police raid and urine test. The really juicy catch here is Sven Nylander, who is currently engaged as a manager and spokesperson for the sports organisation "Ren idrott" (Clean Sports), whose goal it is to clean out drugs and doping from the Swedish sports scene. Being manager of the Clean Sports organization and getting busted for drugs is of course a real bummer, and Nylander has taken a "time-out" from his job pending the police enquiry. Nylander himself has told media he's innocent and does not know how drugs got into his system. Our guess is it was ingested through the nose... Patrik Sjöberg, however, has come clean and confessed to snorting coke that evening in a statement to the media. Patrik Löfgren has not issued any comment so far.

UPDATE: Sven Nylander tonight in a statement confessed to using cocaine that night, joining Patrik Sjöberg in facing charges of drug use and possible posession.
