Tuesday was the unveiling of Home and Garden Television's new Dream Home in Islamorada to millions of viewers, and expectations in the Upper Keys are running high.
In 2006, the Dream Home in Lake Lure near Chimney Rock in North Carolina garnered 54 million contest entries online, and 30,000 people toured the home. This year, organizers estimate that more than 50,000 people will descend on the Keys to get a glimpse of their dream, and local communities are preparing for the effect it will have on their economy.
The Key Largo Chamber of Commerce's visitors center is the first place on the way into the Keys that is selling tickets for the Dream Home tours, which begin Thursday."
