NP Rank:
Commonwealth Attorney Colludes with area Defense Attornies - Winchester Va
SUPPORTING ARTICLE ------> Northern Va Daily Article
I can't seem to get over how the prosecution cut those deals. I was
reading a law blog last nite and an attorney said: Prosecutors always
cut deals for their own benefit 'not' the benefit of the defendants.
That makes alot of sense but I had never really thought about it. All I
knew is that it was rubbing me wrong and I couldnt place my finger on
it. I hear about people taking plea deals all the time though I never
put the pychology of 'it' under intense scrutiny. It makes complete
sense to offer plea's if your case is weak and you jeapardize losing
the whole shabang. However, why would Jeff take the plea on the second
day of trial? The plea was not for his benefit, it was an intense
pressuring tactic to make sure the Commonwealth walked away w/ victory.
All the other defendants 'ran' towards the pleas welcoming the
arrangements with open arms and excepting the terms prior to their
priliminary hearing. No one even went to trial except for Jeff. That is
quite disturbing and strikes a cord with me. If the prosecution built
up such a huge case against Jeff and bannered it as a Gangster Capital
Murder Case...... WHY EVEN ALLOW THE PLEA AT THIS POINT? Why?

Sorry, I don't agree with that at all. Jeff was guilty, he knew it and knew that if he didn't take the agreement he would get a much worse sentencing in the end. I like that he was offered the agreement because otherwise it would have just cost the honest, non law breaking citizens more money for the court and lawers.
