Community Woodland lost to London 2012 Olympics
A community woodland has been lost to the London 2012 Olympics The Bully Fen woodland in Hackney, London, UK is now closed to the public. The nearby Manor Gardens Allotments is set close in July 2007.
The woodland (owned by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority) was established in 2000 by the London Borough of Newham and other partners to plant more trees. The wider area included the Lea Valley Cycle Circuit and a nature reserve.
The £7.8 million grant for Stratford: Tomorrow’s City Single Regeneration Budget from the London Development Agency is now wasted money. The London 2012 Olympics plan to be green, and plan a legacy for the area. But at the start of the building process the Olympic Development Authority have destroyed a previous plan for a green legacy.
The vision of the Olympic Delivery Authority is stated as follows: London 2012 organisers are developing strategies to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases through energy efficient design, carbon offsetting, use of renewable energy, environmentally friendly transport and management of green spaces for the benefit of the planet's climate.
The removal of a woodland that was created in 2000 does not tally with objective.

LoopZilla, I like this story: The current practices of the ODA in the area they're 'developing' as "Channelsea Village" need much more scrutiny. It's good stuff.

LoopZilla, thank you for posting this. As a Vancouverite (2010 Winter Olympics) I find the losses and stupidity associated with hosting the games far outweighs the gains and the intelligence. And the games are still three years off here--I imagine it will get worse before it gets better.
