Contextual Advertising is Great Most of the Time
The recent story of the man who had his genitalia ripped off by his wife sent a chill down my spine and through my crotch. While i was reading the article online i noticed that the Advertisment running on the page was for a book from Amazon.com entitled, Tickle his Pickle: Your hands-on guide to Penis Pleasing. Still not sure if this is the Publisher's prank or if it was an automated contextual ad; if it's the latter then it's probably not in the context that the advertiser, in this case Amazon, would like its ad to appear or its brand to be associated. This kind of stuff probably happens quite often but this is the first time i've noticed something so blatant, and ironic. I bet nobody really cares as the as the click-thru rate are good.
If you don't know, Contextual Advertising is basically a system for automatically serving ads based on the content of the page. (e.g. if you are reading a article about baseball then the page's ads would most likely, in a Contextual Ad world, pertain to something about baseball.)
