We all know that the price of petrol has increased and as a result, and due to new EU legislation, cooking oils are increasingly being collected to be turned into transport fuels. UCO (used cooking oil) is collected from catering establishments, processed (heated, cleaned and then filtered) before going into Bio-diesel for industrial or private use. Bio-diesel can now be purchased from fuel stations scattered around the country.
In the UK more than 10,000 tonnes of UCO (Used Cooking Oil) is produced every week. Until recently, 90% was used in animal feed, but EU legislation now prevents this as a means of waste oil disposal.
The Affiliated Cooking Oil Reclaimers Nationwide (ACORN) can be contacted via A&B Oil on 023 8033 9292.
