Missouri Court Opines “Hillbilly” Label a Compliment

Lowell and Minnie want a divorce. Well, Lowell does (rather "did" ... this is a 1960 case). The grounds for divorce?

"Indignities."

The Circuit Court in Stone County, Missouri, gave it to him. Minnie appealed to the higher court (Court of Appeals, Ruark, J.) See the Opinion here.

The Court of Appeals dismissed the case, stating:

"... in divorce action by husband on ground of indignities, evidence, which revealed that indignities complained of were scattered and remote and inconsequential, was not sufficient to establish a settled or continuous course of conduct which indicated hatred, contempt, or estrangement or to establish any great injury suffered by plaintiff.

Judgment reversed, and cause dismissed."

The opinion in this case isn't the strangest or funniest I've seen, or even too reflective of a ridiculous opinion of a judge, but it's funny when you ignore the fact Missouri is termed "Meth-ouri" for a reason, and my personal experiences with the Missouri's court and governmental system calls to mind numerous derogatory terms far worse than "hillbilly."
