Crackdown - Police target knife culture at nightclub

Police targeted a rising knife-carrying culture among clubbers by drafting an airport-style metal detector into a Teesside nightclub.

The special operation took place at the Lava Ignite nightclub in Middlesbrough on Saturday night with the co-operation of the club owners.

The rising number of deadly knives found on clubbers there and seized by door staff prompted the operation. Door staff have been threatened by punters brandishing knives on a number of occasions.

Knuckle-dusters "which could kill" have also been seized.
