Crane unloads grounded ship's cargo

Jan 29 2007

A giant floating crane has started to lift containers from a listing vessel grounded off a World Heritage Site coast.

The operation to remove more than 2,000 containers from the 62,000-tonne Napoli started just before 11.30am, and could take months.

The damaged vessel was grounded over a week ago a mile off Sidmouth, Devon, amid fears she could sink following an Atlantic storm.

Her crew of 26 was airlifted from a lifeboat after abandoning ship 50 miles off the Cornish coast.
