An unemployed chef who ran up a £3,500 unpaid bill at a Chinese takeaway was told he needed help today.

Shane Wiggins claimed he ordered the huge meals, costing an average of £388 each, and bounced cheques because he had no money to buy food while his mother was in hospital.

The 19-year-old received nine deliveries from The Lucky Star Chinese restaurant in Aylesham, near Canterbury, Kent, over a 12-day period between March and April this year.

The Judge certainly helped him. The meals totalled £3,563.50 less the £1,000 compensation and £50 costs he was also ordered to pay = £2513.50. So the 50 hours of community work, works out at £2513.50/50 = £50.27 per hour. Pretty good pay.

That's... ('ang on... carry the two...) one thousand main dishes and maybe fifty small orders of soup.

More than enough food for a a couple of horses, riders, two dogs and a pig for a couple of weeks.
