NP Rank:
Former Stanley Cup Champion Guy Lafleur Has Arrest Warrant Issued
An arrest warrant was issued for Montreal Canadians hockey legend Guy Lafleur after allegedly giving contradictory evidence in court last fall, with his son facing numerous charges. The former Habs front man led the league in scoring for years and has five Stanley Cup wins under his belt.
His son, Mark Lafleur, faces a slew of charges, including uttering death threats and sexual assault of a 17-year-old. He is also accused of kidnapping, forcible confinement, mischief,
theft, possession of crack cocaine, ecstasy and marijuana, threatening
to kill a Montreal bus driver, dangerous driving causing bodily harm
and damaging a bus. Wow, that is some list right there.
His fans (and myself, as a fan of Lafleur) think there was no reason to issue a warrant, as he has been complying with the court and I'm sure would have shown up if requested.
Guy Lafleur plans to surrender to Montreal police Friday morning, in response to an arrest warrant issued Wednesday for the Hockey Hall of Famer.
Lafleur, 56, will be arrested for allegedly giving contradictory evidence last fall in the court case of his son, Mark Lafleur, 22, who is facing a gamut of charges including sexual assault.
After the hockey legend is arrested, it is expected he will be released immediately on a promise to appear in court at a later date, most likely at the end of February, his lawyer, Jean-Pierre Rancourt, said Wednesday.
Yesterday, an arrest warrant was emitted to a former member of the Montreal Canadiens and NHL legend Guy Lafleur for contradictory statements in court.
