Yes...This Happens in YOUR Town, Too!

Oklahoma City police arrested two Wichita men suspected of kidnapping a 22-year-old woman, taking her to Oklahoma and forcing her to have sex for money.

She told police they locked her in a hotel bathroom between assaults.

Experts say that while such cases of forced prostitution appear to be growing more common, they acknowledge victims may be reporting the crime more often.  "We know we have a serious problem with human trafficking, international human trafficking as well," Michael Birzer, director of the school of community affairs at Wichita State University, said Tuesday.

A Wichita man called Oklahoma City police Friday and said his daughter was in danger, police said. The man said his daughter had called from a hotel room and told him "that she was being held against her will at that location," according to a police report.

Police went to the hotel and found the woman with the men. She told an officer that the men "had brought her to Oklahoma City for the prospect of getting a legitimate job and making some money." After arriving in Oklahoma City on Nov. 6, they took her to South Robinson Avenue -- a hot spot for prostitution in the city --"where they told her she had to work as a prostitute to get them some money," the report said.

When she said she didn't want to, the men threatened to beat her. She was in fear for her life and was afraid to leave, she told police.

One of the men had outstanding Oklahoma County, Okla., warrants, police said. Officers booked the men -- ages 28 and 43 -- into jail. Each man is being held on suspicion of pandering and kidnapping, said Master Sgt. Gary Knight, a spokesman for Oklahoma City police.

Michelle Says So, good stuff.

This kind of thing is absolutely sick. It happens a lot more often then people would like to think. I've heard numbers in the millions (trafficked sex slaves around the world) and wouldn't be that surprised if that number were accurate. I remember watching a piece on Fox News one night and I think it was Daryl Hannah who went through a similar ordeal as the one you have described.

She was lured to Las Vegas by a free trip and the chance of a modeling career. Once she got there she was told by someone who had previously been abused that the whole thing was a sham and that they were going to force her into prostitution if she didn't leave. Luckily, she left. Many women don't get the chance.

For some quick numbers about this issue click here. It's just what Wikipedia has to say about the number of women who are trafficked each year but it is at least a place to start.

Thank you for recognizing this problem. People are too ignorant and
think it only happens to other people..yet it happens in small towns
just as much as big cities. The internet is the fuel that adds to the fire...so
many girls can get lured into lies and deception from people that only
have themselves and money in their interests. It's sick and
demented...yet that's what our society has come to.

SAD BUT TRUE. My favorite quote from Ferris Bueller's Day's Off, "I weep for the future."

Oh, so true...and that was said in 1985!

This was a comment to my story on a similar event a few months back, where the mother of one of the missing sent me a comment to my story.

Las Vegas; Lures you, Hook, Line, Sinker, Dead

My daughter is Jessie Foster and I am always grateful when I see her
name in an article. It means that people are still reading about her
disappearance. Sincerely, Glendene Grant, www.jessiefoster.ca

Michelle Says So, Good stuff.

I reported something similar a few months past, but it happened in Canada,. where they lure to Vegas for a rock star lifestyle waiting tables or modelling gigs. Some go so far as meeting these girls online dating them for a while gain their trust and then they take a trip to Vegas on a supposed boyfriend/girlfriend vacation, there she is raped and sold into prostitution.  My feeling is just get these guys who prey on the innocent an bury them in the desert, dead or alive? Makes no difference to me.
