Reporter Jill Leovy covers every homicide in Los Angeles County,
giving names to otherwise anonymous casualties — and some relief to
their families.
Leovy is the creator of The Homicide Report,
a blogging project by the Los Angeles Times in which she is attempting
to record every homicide in Los Angeles County over the course of a
year. She has covered over 700 to date.
Most of the reports are just a sentence or two long, but they are
filled with heartbreak, like the death of Michael Presley, 19, buried
in the same grave as his father, who was also murdered years earlier.
The following series of posts comprises the weekly list of homicide victims in Los Angeles County for this period. A slow week–until Sunday, that is, when at least seven people were killed, including two in LAPD’s Pacific Division, which covers Venice and parts of the Westside, one of the lowest homicide areas in the city. Reports from days past are updated here: The information is from law enforcement, the Los Angeles County Coroner, and families. Above, the cousins of Julio Lizano, Echo Park victim from Sunday, lit a candle next to the bloodstain on the sidewalk where he fell.Source: latimesblog
