Killed For A Hijab, Lived For A Smile: My Friend Aqsa Parvez

This Monday, Aqsa Parvez, 16, a popular Muslim girl was killed. Her
father Muhammed Parvez has been charged with her murder. Aqsa had
started to go without her hijab this fall. While classmates accepted
her experimentation, her family allegedly protested her abandonment of
the traditional Muslim head scarf. Friends of Aqsa said she had begun
to feel nervous about returning home because of the cultural conflict.
Many Muslim girls in Canada are struggling to reconcile Muslim
traditions with secular Western ways. Here, a friend of Aqsa says Aqsa
simply wanted to be herself, but wasn't abandoning her religion.

And this happened where? In Canada? Her father charged with her murder? Manslaughter or? Killed over a headscarf! or even just moving out! Wow! This is legal? where?

Fatah, founder of the Canadian Muslim Congress, calls Parvez’s murder a
blight on Islam.“In my mind, this was an honor killing,” said Fatah,
adding its going to get worse before it gets better.

And as if
he was talking directly to the Toronto Star, the Muslim community
leader also said there needs to be an honest debate about this murder
and that “the media should not just talk to the ones wearing head
scarves but the ones who do not want to.”

My God grant her a place in heaven. Can't say the same about her father though

Covering the hair has nothing to do with Islam. Its just Islam being used and abused as usual.

People need to realise that there are many girls being forced to cover their hair and are afraid of their families.
