The British police have been working on finding Madeleine and this has not pleased Chief Inspector Goncalo Amaral of the Portuguese police

Updated:
The Portuguese detective leading the Madeleine McCann investigation has been sacked after launching an astonishing public attack on his British counterparts.

Chief Inspector Goncalo Amaral, 47, was dismissed from the position by the national directors of the Judicial Police.

Original:

The Portuguese detective in charge of the Madeleine McCann investigation today launched an astonishing attack on British officers, accusing them of only working for Madeleine's parents.

Chief Inspector Goncalo Amaral broke his silence to say: "British police have only worked on what the McCann couple want them to work on."

The outburst comes amid growing evidence of hostility between Portuguese police and their counterparts in Leicestershire over the direction of the case.
