The Vancouver Airport Authority said Friday it will spend $1.3-million from this year's operating budget on improvements to ensure there's no repeat of an incident like the one that led to the death of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski.

The upgrades are designed to make it easier for passengers coming through the international arrivals terminal to connect with those who are meeting them.

They will include 24-hour customer care in the international arrivals area and hourly walk-throughs of the customs hall, where Mr. Dziekanski languished for hours before his life ended in a confrontation with police on Oct. 14.
