"We know that in the past if someone wanted to work in the seaport tax and custom office, he had to go through a long bureaucracy, get 21 signatures, and probably paid a certain amount of money so that the requests could be fulfilled," he said.However, at present the bureaucracy had been shortened and authorities were lessen in order to reduce the potential of corruption, he said.
The vice president hoped that government officials including ministers who have high authorities would no longer abuse their power so that corruption in the bureaucracy could be lessened.
He acknowledged that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has taken the right steps either through repressive or preventive actions to reduce corruption cases in this country.
"We shock of what the KPK has done so far, both its repressive and preventive actions. But it`s a good shock therapy, so we have always to be careful," the vice president said.
