A crowd of 50.000 for Pavarotti's funeral
A crowd of 50.000 today attended at tenor Luciano Pavarotti's funeral.
Among them former UN Secretary Kofi Annan, Italian PM Romano Prodi (who made a short speech during the ceremony) and friends and colleagues such as U2's Bono, Italian popstars Zucchero and Jovanotti; classical ballet diva Carla Fracci and director Franco Zeffirelli.
Soprano Raina Kabaivanska performed the Ave Maria from Giuseppe Verdi's Otello and Andrea Bocelli sung Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus.
During the mass a message from Pope Benedict XVI was read and also messages from Pavarotti's daughters, including one by her 4-year old daughter Alice (the only daughter he had with his second wife Nicoletta).
The Maestro's official website is accessible again and now shows a black and white photo and a few words from Pavarotti himself in Italian and English: "I think a life in music is a life beautifully spent and this is what I have devoted my life to".
More than 40.000 cards with a photo of the Maestro were distributed among the people who attended the ceremony. A few hours later, a couple of those were already available as collectible items on Ebay.it.
