GRANMA press release: despite
its economic difficulties, heightened by the iron-fisted economic
blockade to which the island is subjected – it has begun reducing
energy consumption via a number of measures. These include the
replacement of incandescent light bulbs with energy-saving ones,

Achim Steiner,  Executive Director of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) since June 15, 2006, the youngest UN general undersecretary. Visited Cuba during the first week of July for 48 hours to attend the 6th International Convention on Environment and Development organized by the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), and was accompanied by Ricardo Sánchez, UNEP representative for Latin America and the Caribbean. Steiner born to German parents from Brazil  which is interesting (wonder what daddy did in the war?) Said to the Cuban people, "I would say that they should continue in their efforts to develop their nation economically to maintain their belief in social justice.
(Spoken like a true Comrade).
