Stampede at Moroccan Festival

A music festival in the Moroccan capital of Rabat turned tragic as a stampede of fans caused at least 11 deaths and 30 injuries.

The incident occurred late Saturday night where around 70,000 fans gather at the Hay Nahda stadium for a performance by Moroccan star Abdelaziz Stati.

According to reports, a rush of fans climbed a wire fence, causing it to collapse and triggering a stampede. Sadly, most of the dead were women and children.

The large multi-venue music festival featured several performances from world-class musicians. On the final night, there were several concerts, including one by soul legend Stevie Wonder. When those other concerts ended, many fans head over to the end of Stati's concert, packing the stadium to capacity.

Other artists performing at the Mawazine Festival include Kylie Minogue, Sergio Mendes, and Ennio Moricone.
