MUSSOORIE, 17 Nov: The 18th Culture and Sports Mela organised by the ‘Krida and Sanskritik Vikas Samiti’, Athjula Silwad, concluded today amidst much fanfare. Kabaddi and cultural programs were held on the occasion.
Parogi village won the Junior Kabaddi title, while in the primary division Sidh Primary Pathshala, Gharketh, was the winner. Tarun Sports Club, Mogi, won the Senior Kabaddi title. In the senior division Volleyball, Lakhwar Village were declared winners.
The Chief Guest at today’s proceedings was Preetam Panwar, former MLA. Also present was Mira Saklani, Vice-President Zila Panchayat, Tehri Garhwal, and Surendar Rawat, senior Congress leader from Mussoorie.
The main attraction of the mela was the giant wheel specially brought on the occasion. Women dressed in the ethnic attire of the Jaunpur region attracted attention. Delicacies like milk and jalebis were on sale at the mela. The chow mien stall attracted the youth of the region.
This was followed by a seminar on cultural and sports promotion. Cultural programmes were also held. The Chief Guest commended the efforts of the villagers in organising such festivals. He also praised the organisers for their concerted effort in promoting and preserving the cultural identity of the region. Meera Saklani said that she was for such melas, because the culture and sports activities remained alive and the youth became involved in positive activities.
Later, prizes were distributed to the winners of the various cultural and sports activities. The programme was coordinated by Siya Singh Chauhan.
Ranvir Singh Sajwan, President, Sabbal Singh Rawat, Vice president, Secretary Kanhaiya Singh Rana, Joint Secy Rakesh Rawat, Treasurer Vikram Singh Rana, Sports president Anad Singh Sajwan, Vice Prsident Suresh Sajwan, Gen Sec Ram Chander Rawat, Ram Chander Sajwan, Mahipal Singh Sajwan, Khajan Singh Sajwan, Jaipal Singh Rana, Rakesh Rana, Vikram Sajwan, Siya Kumar, Shoorvir Tomar and Bittoo were present on the occasion.
