2008 Mermaid Parade @ Brooklyn's Coney Island

It is Saturday and to be honest I don't feel like moving my injured body from the couch, with a bag of ice over my right knee and tired as a granmpa on Christmas dinner. But what could make my evening more exciting in a place like New York City?

Sometimes you are too comfy at home with your AC at full power but if that is what you were doing Saturday 6-21-08 you miss one of the funniest, irreverent, wild, toxic, creative street parties that NYC could had offer and FREE.

I arrived after 6:30 in the afternoon and when you think there is nothing or no one to interview and photograph, well...You are wrong. From transvestites to straight man wearing a mermaid's tale, the colors, aromas, flavors and thoughts, the rainbow of unique United Nations covered the sea of Coney Island's Boardwalk. 

The Show Must Go On seems as everybody is screamimg with blood and nails at unison. The queer with the fruits and lobster over his head, the Nemo like man with his big eyes and orange suit, the mermaid woman with her nipples plastered with starfishes, the amazingly beautiful blond girl with an smile and green diamond like top that made me think about quitting everything right there and then.

Coney Island's Mermaid Parade was an event that had it all, all kind of people, all kind of colors and economic level, all sexual orientations and I ask: Why can't the Government of USA be more like "this" United for Peace and Fun World?

...and all I can hear is: "Make love not war".
