SNL's Christmas special is set to air this week on December 17th with regular cast member Kristen Wiig as the host. Wiig will host the Christmas special as "Gilly," a recurring character she plays on SNL who is known for her one word catch phrases.

The holiday special, titled "SNL Presents: A Very Gilly Christmas," will include re-makes of old sketch favourites as well as lots of new material. Both Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin are set to make guest appearances on the 2009 SNL Christmas special.

"SNL Presents: A Very Gilly Christmas" will air Dec. 17 at 8 p.m. The two-hour special, the first for "SNL" since 2002, will be led by Wiig's Gilly, an ever-smiling Annie-lookalike who delights in violent mischief.

Wiig believes that she Christmas special will be a big success and credits SNL's 35 years of holiday shows as a strong basis of material to work with for the 2009 Christmas episode.
