2010 Oscars Producer Adam Shankman Tweets Insider Information
Adam Shankman, producer of the upcoming 2010 Oscars, has been stirring up some controversy by tweeting insider information with his fans and followers on Twitter. The "So You Think You Can Dance" panel judge and Oscars producer has taken to his Twitter account, @adammshankman, to open up a bit about the 2010 Academy Awards.
The Academy members are reportedly nervous about the nature of Shankman's recent Oscars tweets. They're concerned that private Oscars information will go viral via Twitter or that the contents of Shankman's tweets will be misinterpreted by some followers.
The Academy, which frowns on outright campaigning, would probably prefer that its members keep their opinions to themselves. But what's starting to happen is that those post-screening discussions that used to take place in the lobby of the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater are now beginning to pop up on online, where almost anyone can listen in.
Numerous tweets have been appearing on Shankman's Twitter account in which he poses questions to the fans about the content of the Oscars, who fans want to present awards, and who they want to see perform at the Oscars ceremony.
His initial Tweet about the Oscars didn't give too much away but it was enough to let followers know that they might be getting some insider Oscars details in the months to come:
Had dinner last night with Oscar cohosts steve martin and Alec Baldwin. Laughed so hard I almost passed out. This is gonna b goooood... 6:31 AM Dec 5th from Tweetie
It was Shankman's next Oscars related tweet that really opened up a channel for fans' discussion on Oscars content:
Curious: what and who do u wanna see on the oscars? What would make u watch? 2:57 PM Dec 6th from Tweetie
The followers' response was overwhelming with many fans tweeting that they'd like to see stars from Disney's "High School Musical" at the ceremony as well as the dynamite duo Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart from Summit's "Twilight" film franchise.
Shankman acknowledged the fan favourites before posing another question in which he asked how much interest there would be in having dancers from "So You Think You Can Dance" on the show. His Oscars-related tweet this morning was decidedly more reserved, however, in terms of Oscars content:
Had a huge technical meeting on oscars... The whole creative team is so fired up, it's amazing. I luv R crew. They (cont) http://tl.gd/16vir about 3 hours ago from Tweetie
Fans can only hope that they'll get a few more chances to share their input with the Oscars producer. He will undoubtedly be inundated with requests and questions from fans now that the opportunity for discussion has opened up. Based on the Twitter responses Shankman received, it seems that his followers are of a younger generation. Cast members from the popular TV show "Glee" was another popular request for an Oscars appearance.
Whether the input of Shankman's Twitter followers is taken into account in the lead up to the 2010 Academy Awards or not, it's clear that social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook lend themselves well to instant fan discussion. As soon as input is requested, it's all too easy for fans to tweet their opinions and make their preferences known.
