Gay Filmmakers will be honored at 2010 Provincetown International Film Festival

Gay filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, the Academy Award winning directing team responsible for such documentaries as The Times of Harvey Milk (1984), will be honored at the 2010 Provincetown International Film Festival that will take place in Provincetown, Massachusetts from June 16 through June 20.

Working together as a filmmaking team

Epstein's work has been shown in theaters, on television, at festivals, and museums throughout the world. Friedman started his career in New York City where he eventually began editing documentaries for television. He was associate editor on the 1983 feature film Never Cry Wolf. He first worked with Epstein as a consultant on The Times of Harvey Milk, after which they decided to work together as a filmmaking team and formed Telling Pictures. Between them they have received two Academy Awards, five Emmy Awards, three Peabodys, as well as Guggenheim and Rockefeller Fellowships.

First non-documentary release, Epstein and Friedman will receive Faith Hubley Memorial Award

The duo, who will have their first non-documentary Howl, a non-linear retelling of poet Allen Ginsberg’s infamous obscenity trial, in theaters in September, will be presented with the Faith Hubley Memorial Award. Other awards recipients include Chasing Amy director Kevin Smith, who will receive the 2010 Filmmaker on the Edge Award, and Academy Award-winning actress Tilda Swinton, who will be honored with the Excellence in Acting Award.

Thank you, Susan! Unfortunately, I have not (yet) visited Provincetown or its annual film festival, but I can imagine that it is absolutely remarkable.

Thanks again!
