The red carpet is considered the main show of the MET Gala, bringing together some of the world’s biggest celebrities and designers, and is among the most glamorous and celeb-studded nights of the year.

On Monday night, stars made their way up the Metropolitan Museum's red-carpeted stairs to attend The Costume Institute's annual gala.

Chelsea Clinton, Donald Trump, Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Beyoncé, David Byrne, Kanye West, Lana Del Rey, Janelle Monáe, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Sofia Vergara, Amy Poehler, Tim Tebow, Taio Cruz and Amare Stoudemire were among those spotted on the red carpet.

But, who were the best dressed? And who were the ones that could have dressed a little better?

2012 MET Gala Red Carpet Best Dressed

Jessica Alba - What doesn't she look good wearing? She has a very elegant style, and she never ceases to amaze on any red carpet.

Emma Stone - Fairly new to the red carpets, Emma Stone knows how to wear red, and it looks so good on her. Especially with sparkles.

Sofia Vergera - You may not always be able to understand her, but you can understand that she wanted to be noticed. The color gray amazingly accents her skin and dark lips.

Camille Belle - Camille wore a Ralph Lauren Collection ivory tulle beaded dress with champagne python sandals.

2012 MET Gala Worst Dressed Stars

Beyonce - If a poor peacock didn't have to die for Beyonce to wear her red carpet dress, I don't know what did. Maybe they took apart a plush Kevin the prehistoric bird from Disney's Up.

Kristen Stewart - Ripped up her dad's Ford Pinto and hotel curtains and made her own outfit. Way to go for individuality!

Lana Del Ray - I don't know if Lana thinks she's a super hero or not, but if she were playing pretend before she went to the MET Gala, she forgot to take off her cape.

Chloe Sevigny - Everything about her looked bad, from her hairstyle to her makeup, right down to her horrid, 70's door beads dressed. I guess it takes a lot to look your worst, and place to go after you accomplish it is the MET Gala.

Elizabeth Banks - Did a little bit of Effie Trinket rub off on her? I think only Effie would have wore a dress like that and not be ashamed.
