2012 Oscar Nominations 84th Annual Academy Awards REACTIONS
The first big surprise about this year's Oscar nominations is that there's only 9 nominees in the Best Picture category. I guess they really didn't want to nominate Bridesmaids. Another shocker in that category is the inclusion of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, a film that many people feel has exploited the events of 9/11 for cheap emotions.
But on a cheerful note, Gary Oldman got nominated as Best Actor for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Many will be stunned to learn that this is his first nomination ever. Melissa McCarthy got a Supporting Actress nod. I believe she's the first person to be nominated for pooping in a sink. Albert Brooks, who was snubbed for his popular performance in indie hit Drive, should have probably done the same.
Steven Spielberg may have gotten his Oscar bait film, the War Horse, nominated for Best Picture, but Adventures of Tintin got snubbed in the Animation category. That's good news for Rango fans. It is also worth noting that Cars 2 is the first Pixar film not to be nominated since the category debut in 2002.
How come there's only two songs nominated this year? That's odd. Oh, well. Man or Muppet now has a 50/50 shot. Speaking of 50/50, that Seth Rogen/Joseph Gordon-Levitt movie was totally snubbed.
Anyway, that's all for now. The 84th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Billy Crystal, will air on February 26 on ABC.
