Production on the hit primetime TV show "24" has temporarily been halted. Keifer Sutherland, who stars in "24" as Jack Bauer, will be undergoing surgery this week. Sutherland's surgery will be a minor procedure to fix a ruptured cyst near his kidney that he sustained last week.

Production of "24" will be halted for one week while its executive producer and principle actor recovers from surgery. At this time, the FOX TV network is only describing Sutherland's surgery as a "medical procedure" and fans need not worry about his safety.

"While Kiefer Sutherland is frustrated to miss even one day of work, he and Fox decided together that it would be best to complete this minor elective procedure now," Sutherland's publicist said in the statement.

Filming of "24" continued last Friday without Sutherland, but production will now be halted until he can return to the show. While filming of "24" is being suspended for the moment, this change in filming schedule is not expected to disrupt the show's regular airing schedule of current episodes.
