MS Dhoni will be a satisfied skipper, however he won’t be too happy with his individual performance behind the stumps. Clarke made an interesting decision by declaring the innings and now Indian batsmen have ample of time to build a good first innings lead. With most of their batsmen in form, the task shouldn’t be a difficult one for them.

Welcome to day 2. Day 1 went as planned for India. Everything, barring the toss, went the hosts' way and they went into stumps in a commanding position. Australia are once again in a position they are familiar with in Indian conditions - they have been bowled out for a moderate total and it's not up to their bowlers to rescue them. It's not that they can't, especially on this wicket - as it's helping both the pacers and the spinners.

It has comfortably been India's day. Australia could not rack up the big score needed after opting to bat first. Bhuvneshwar Kumar rattled them early with three quick strikes. Australia fought back well through Clarke and Wade but the final session gave the advantage right back to India. Ashwin was not even needed to bowl a ball in the last session. All the bowlers had their moments through the day. Clarke did create a flutter by the declaration but the openers negated it by batting through. India are well set to drive home the advantage tomorrow.

On what came as a surprise to many, Australian captain Michael Clarke chose to declare his team’s first innings at 237/9. The logic behind this move was to try and bag a couple of Indian wickets in the three overs left in the first day’s play. However, this isn’t the first time that an international skipper has made such an audacious decision; it is the third such instance in Test history, to be precise.
