Despite what you've heard or read, this isn't a bad movie. Granted, it isn't scary nor funny, but it has an intriguing story. People love to criticize screenwriter Diablo Cody, especially after she won the Oscar for Juno, but she's a talented writer. Jennifer's Body tells the story of Jennifer (Megan Fox) a sexy and popular high school student who turns into a demon after her body is sacrificed to the devil by an Indie band she's a groupie of. The one who has to stop her is her best friend whose nickname is Needy (Amanda Seyfried). It's the relationship between Jennifer and Needy that makes the movie interesting. Needy is the opposite of Jennifer. She's nerdy, unpopular, and not nearly as attractive. On the surface it seems like Jennifer just hangs out with her to make herself look better. Needy even points out that although her breasts are bigger, Jennifer doesn't like it if she shows them off. Boys should be looking at her chest! So, when Jennifer becomes a demon and starts eating the male population at school it's almost as if the average girl has to stop the superficial popular one. It's a theme/symbolism that's obvious from just watching the trailer and TV spots. That's why Cody throws a curve ball at the audience. Jennifer and Needy could possibly be repressed homosexuals. They live in a small town where that sort of behavior may not be encouraged. So, they can't express their love for one another even though they do a lot of things to give off that vibe. And I'm not just saying that because of the famous make out scene. The movie is loaded with lesbian innuendos which gives off the impression that this a tragic love story. It's all up for debate though. So, give this film a shot - or a second chance - it's on HBO and Cinemax all the time.
