Everyone grew up reading Washington Irving's Sleepy Hollow. Actually, who are we kidding? Most people haven't read it. They saw the Disney cartoon as a kid and that's their entire knowledge of the story. Basically, it's about a skinny and ugly school teacher who tries to hook up with the hot girlfriend of the town's strong good-looking guy. He manages to do that, so just to mess with him, the guy dresses up as a headless horseman and scares the crap out of the ugly school teacher. Great story, right? Well, director Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, Batman) said, "we can spice it up" and with the help of Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en) he gave us a very cool movie.

It's 1799 and people are being beheaded by a headless Christopher Walken in the town of Sleepy Hollow. Sent to investigate the case is a New York constable by the name of Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp). Crane is apparently the inventor of forensic science so who better to investigate a supernatural case? At first, Crane doesn't believe in the supernatural and tries to disprove it with science. Then, the headless horseman shows up to kill him and he realizes that perhaps science isn't always right.

This isn't a scary film, although it tries to be, but it's a thrill ride. It's a perfect movie to watch with friends or family members who aren't big horror fans.

I love this movie - I actually owned a VHS copy when it first came out. Good choice!
