Abbey Road: Heritage Crosswalk

The Abbey Road crosswalk in North London has been listed as a heritage site. Not Abbey Road Studios itself (which is at 3 Abbey Road), where the landmark Beatles record was recorded, but the actual crosswalk that served as the album cover. The Abbey Road crosswalk is in St. John's Wood, just above Grove End Road. (Google Street View of Abbey Road crosswalk)

The Abbey Road album cover is also a main focal point of the "Paul is Dead" rock meme.

For those not in North London, you can check out Abbey Road Studios' live webcam of the Abbey Road zebra crossing.

John Penrose, the tourism minister, will announce today that the Government is to publish an order granting the crossing Grade II-listed status on the advice of English Heritage. A Grade II listing, the most common protected status, means that a building or monument is recognised as nationally important and of special interest.
