Whitmore notably portrayed Harry Truman, Will Rogers and Theodore Roosevelt in one-man stage shows and created memorable characters in many movies and TV shows, including "The Twilight Zone."
According to entertainment Web site IMBd.com, Whitmore won a Tony award in 1948 for his gritty Broadway portrayal of an Army sergeant in "Command Decision," but was replaced by Van Johnson in the film version.
He was a good actor.
His death is a great
loss to the entertainment
industry.

I was raised in the Hollywood Hills and had an occasion to meet James Whitmore. He was on a personal level, a nice man ... and a compelling character actor. His presence and style of presentation always added more to the story than nearly all of the characters do in this modern age of moviemaking.
May God receive James Whitmore in this time of transition.
