Adele Flips Off BRIT Awards after Speech Interruption (Video)
Adele Middle Finger Video at BRIT Awards: They Had It Coming
While giving her acceptance speech for Album of the Year at the 2012 BRIT Awards, Adele found herself walking in M.I.A.'s footsteps. Bet you didn't see this one coming.
After accepting the award from George Michael, Adele's speech ran a little long for the producers. BRIT Awards host James Corden sheepishly interrupted Adele in order to introduce Blur.
(In other news, Blur still exists as a band- this is news to us.) Adele thanked the audience and then flipped the bird, even as the audience applauded.
We suspect that the backlash against Adele for her own middle-finger incident will be far less than that against M.I.A.
Adele later explained her actions to the BBC: I flung the middle finger. That was for the suits at the BRIT Awards, not my fans. I’m sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me.”
Indeed, James Corden (creator of Gavin & Stacey) also blamed the suits: "The truth is, just after Adele was saying thank you, people were saying, 'You have to go in now', and I said, 'I can't'. They were like, 'You have to'. I said, 'How can we cut her off?' The whole room was on their feet and they were like, 'You have to do it'. It was such a surreal moment and essentially you can hear five people in your ear having an argument. Then there was just one overriding voice saying that you have to."
Adele won awards for British Female Solo Artist and Album of the Year.
Your Adele update: The BRIT Awards producers have apologized to Adele, saying, "We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short this evening due to the live show over-running. We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her."
