Aerosmith cancels tour based on faked injury
What a joke! I heard from Bruce Allen (and the chat on many web sites) that the whole "injury" was faked. The story goes that there was a big thick pad placed on the side of the stage for Tyler to "fall" onto (just out of camera view). The real reason the tour was cancelled is lack of ticket sales. With most cities' tickets STARTING at over $100.00 I am not surprised. But come on guys, inventing an injury is pretty lame!
CALGARY - Steven Tyler's injuries that prevented Aerosmith from playing in Calgary this week will sideline the band for longer than originally expected, according to the band's website.
Tour officials have announced that the entire 2009 summer swing has been cancelled - including two shows in Ontario in September - after Tyler's fall from a Sturgis, S.D., concert stage on Aug. 5.
Originally, tour promoters said the shows will go on, since the injuries were minor. But the latest details reveal that Tyler has broken his shoulder, and the band decided to allow the band's iconic frontman to rest - since he cannot tour in his current condition.
"Words can't express the sadness I feel for having to cancel this tour," says guitarist Joe Perry in a written statement posted on the website. "I would like to thank our loyal fans for sticking by us through thick and thin and all the good energy they are sending our way. We hope we can get the Aerosmith machine up and running again as soon as possible."
There were 15 dates left on Aerosmith's summer tour - which also features ZZ Top - although the Vancouver show scheduled for this Saturday had already been postponed along with the rest of the Western Canada swing that was scheduled during this past week.
Shows in Regina, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver were all postponed as of Aug. 8. The tour cancellation now also wipes out dates in Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, New York and Detroit.
Ticket holders can get refunds for cancelled concerts at point of purchase, the band said.
Tyler, 61, fell off the stage in South Dakota during the band's performance of "Love in an Elevator," when the frontman tried to hype up the crowd when the sound system failed. Tyler was subsequently airlifted to a hospital, then returned to Boston to be treated by his own doctors, the website said.
