As Frustrations Over Obama Mount, Sharpton Lashes Out At Critical Callers

American Baptist minister, civil rights activist and radio talk show host Al Sharpton tells callers critical of Obama to 'SHUT UP!'

Sharpton, who hosts his own radio talk show, The AL SHARPTON SHOW, apparently was having a bad day when, protecting Obama, he turned against his audience.

It seems that "Until a week or so ago, Sharpton's radio callers remained seemingly euphoric over Obama's victory, rarely raising critical points."  But, something has changed.

While polls still show Obama with as much as 97% approval among African-Americans, that doesn't mean there aren't significant concerns beneath the surface.

But these frustrated supporters, both men and women, have clearly phoned the wrong program. Rather than discuss their grievances, Sharpton has taken to angry outbursts, personal insults and threats. Only one, a woman named Fay from Detroit, seemed able to find him agreeable to her points.

Though Sharpton is known for attention-generating public confrontations, his radio program is normally quite the opposite, generally featuring polite conversation and often avoids controversy altogether.

View the 'caught on tape clip' followed by transcripts of three conversations, here.

This happen with tassausa Mciilyn (sp?) who supported Edi Ammin when he came to power...his readers who said bad things about Ammin were not to be printed in his paper. Nice to see old Al is the Free Speech Czar for Obama.

Al Sharpton can shut up. What really gets me under the gruff are these High Tech... Politicians who will claim to be anti racists but do the exact opposite, and not admit their own mistakes...while in the same tongue and cheek support the killing of innocent babies by standing by the legalization of abortion in this country. Don't let anyone fool us here. This new Healthcare Bill is all about funding abortion, and cementing abortion into the legal books, and forever minting its webbed cocoon in the Supreme Court..... I say Obama ius more than disingenious....and Al Sharpton ain't so sharp afterall.

I am curious to your answer for this question: when does life begin, at birth or at conception? And though your beliefs may lead you to disagree with abortion, do you not believe in the power of choice? Isn't that the whole point of redemption-- that people must simply ask for and subsequently recieve forgiveness for their sins. Without choice there is no ability to love and isn't that the supplied reason for the whole point of creation?

The higher the initial euphoria the harder the sub-sequential fall.

I was initially in favour of Obama and then changed my mind has I kept following his speeches. What really turned me against him was the bail out and finally his Moscow visit where one had to realize that he was inexperienced and had no idea what he was talking about nor who he was dealing with concerning Russia and Europe as well as China.

Mr. President I did not vote for you but up to this point I think you are doing an outstanding job. 80% plus I agree with what you are trying to do for the people (us) some things like 2ed amendment you need to preserve and amnesty for illegal aliens I think you need to be more tough we cannot afford these parasites taking money from the people (us) especially when some of the people (us) cannot get the same benefits!...Also I agree we have come a long way creating things equal for all people (us) but sir in all due respect you made a terrible blunder when you made those statements about what happened to Mr. Gates and Sgt. James Crowley and the Cambridge police dept...if Mr. Gates would have respected the law (when he mentioned a learning experience..all people need to learn this golden rule “respect”) and what they were doing ...there job is to “serve & protect”...which was protecting his property the 2ed time(record of previous robbery attempt in the past) ...Mr. Gates should realize that until you act respectfully and corporate with the authorities (who the people (us) pay to protect & serve) and answer there questions with respect...the officer Crowley & Mr. Gates would have shaken hands and that would have been it...but Mr. Gates was not being respectful or helpful and not corpora ting with the police...the police did NOT act stupidly...Mr. President...I hate to say it but you need to look at your self in the mirror sir. To be honest the health care was taken a back seat after that comment…it lost its luster…sorry, to defend your actions is to dig a deeper hole!...Mr Gates & President Obama need to apologize...Then again…it was said this last question was preplanned so President Obama could get his card out?...also Am I the only one that finds the most unbelievable part to be that his neighbor didn't recognize him? and gave an exact description of someone he supposedly knows ?...….so Was this whole thing planned?...In the end did a lot of people lose respect where there was respect for a lot of people?….and mostly did it hurt relations and set us back 20years rather than forward?......and will President Obama be able to get this cow stuff that he stepped in off his shoes?....

there is no LAW saying you have to respect a cop. No LAW was broken by Mr. Gates. If a law was broken the charge would not have be dropped. According to Supreme Court in Mass. the law says that you cannot get a disorderly conduct if you are not in the public's view. Also, no Miranda rights were read to Gates at his arrest. Bottom line: Gates went to jail for not kissing the cop's ass. Anybody would have been pissed in this situation, white or black. If they were decent cops whose motto is to protect and serve, they would have understood the anger instead of grabbing the handcuffs and creating a trumped up charge. Mr Gates didn't hurt anybody but Crowley's feelings.

There is an unwritten law. Respect the cops because they can throw you in jail. Its like being held in contempt by a judge. Still, I vehemently disagree with the cop's actions. Even if you are being loud and boisterous, which can be seen as agressive, no Harvard professor who walks with a cane at times poses a serious threat, let alone one at all. Therefore, the arrest was unwarranted and showed poor decision making. That being said it was not racially motivated either. It was just an overreaction.

Thanks, Rhonda.

I had seen the story at Brian Mulroney's "Radio Equalizer" and thought of doing the story, but there was no "tape" then.

Good job.

Yeah well, the Sharptons and Jacksons of this world need to always stay in the spotlight, the turds.

I am sure many decent , spiritual blacks are ashamed of the Sharptons and Jacksons 'horse and pony " shows.

Interesting we have not heard from Jesse Jackson...he got it right when he said O has no balls but whose got O by the balls is the question...O does not have the intelligence to run anything so he is being controlled I am sure.
