Alexa Longueira Falls Down Manhole While Texting; Family to Sue

Alexa Longueira, a 15-year-old girl from Staten Island, New York, fell down an open manhole while sending a text message on her cell phone.
The hole was about four to five feet deep, though Longueira suffered no serious injuries and was released from Staten Island University Hospital on the same day.
"It was four or five feet, it was very painful. I kind of crawled out and the DEP guys came running and helped me," Longueria told the Staten Island Advance.. "They were just, like, 'I'm sorry! I'm sorry!"
According to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), sewer line workers on the manhole were briefly away obtaining cones to mark the open sewer when Longueira fell into the hole. Policy mandates that work sites must be marked with warning signs or cut off from pedestrian access while they are undergoing work.
Longeuira's family is planning to sue, though it is unclear whom or for what. According to Alexa's mother, Kim Longueira, "the 'gross' factor" plays a role in their intended lawsuit.
"Oh my God, it was putrid," she said. "One of her sneakers is still down there."

If she is so void of common sense and situational awareness that she just HAD to be texting somebody while walking down a street then she is too stupid to rate to get any money out of this. The workers who left the manhole cover open for a few seconds while they went to retrieve some warning cones from their truck took a gamble based on the fact that the average person had at least a wee tid bit of common sense. The girl failed their faith in the American public on a epic level. Thanks to her stupidity these guys are probably going to lose their job and she is proabably going to make a truckload of money.

If she were watching where she was going...she wouldn't have fallen into a manhole. I hear her family is going to sue. I can't tell you how many people have walked right into me while texting. I see them coming at me...and I usually stop... and let them walk into me and hope they learn a lesson...I HOPE she doesn't get a dime from this!!!!!!!!!! She is the one who was an idiot for not watching where she was going.

who is to blame but her!? who told her to be texting while walking in the streets what a dumbo i bet noone was even with her -.- gord some people could be so ignorant at times and to top it off her parents are going to sue wow.... very encouraging parents it's practically like (" ya go text while walking in the streets, maybe next time you'll get ran over by a car and break your bones and we can sure again!")

if that moronic family gets away with suing the city for their daughters dimwitted action, they should be publicly pelted with the contents of that manhole.

Please! Doesn't everyone sue these days?.........hopefully it will be thrown out. How insane that they think they have a suit when the fault lies with the fallee......
