Amazing auto options of the past

"What were they thinking?" asks David Menzies in his column in the Times Colonist.  He takes a look at some of the unbelievable auto options offered by manufacturers in the past, options that often reflected what was going on in North American culture.  There were, for example, the denim interior package option for AMC Gremlins;  a flower holder for the Volkswagon Beetle; a brake light cover for the Dodge Ram (one has to ask why one would want to cover the brake lights); a tent kit for SUVs; and an ice-making machine for the Toyota Previa.  I'll add one more.  For the past six years I have been driving a Honda CRV that comes with a table.  I'm not sure what the table is for.  A quick roadside game of bridge, perhaps?   Or maybe a way to keep the ants out of your picnic food.
