Is America becoming a theocracy with Santorum win?

Well, the results of the 2012 Iowa caucus to decide the Republican nominee for our presidency is in, and the results are a tie for first. Both Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney got 25% of the vote in Iowa. Frankly, I am like nominee Jon Huntsman, who cares what Iowa thinks? Yeah, you heard me, who cares!Only a tiny fraction of the residents of Iowa voted. Less than 125,000 people voted. That is less than 1/2 of the people of just Milwaukee who will vote in the 2012 presidential election. It is a little bit over .05% of all adult Americans.

Of all people who will vote for a Republican presidential candidate in 2012, it isn't even .20% of those voters. But anyway, Iowa does have a strong effect on who could be our next president. We should have a rotating primary/caucus system where other states go first. Let Vermont or North Dakota go first next time, there is nothing in the Constitution about the people of these states deciding our nominees.

Anyway, as I said Rick Santorum did very well. That is good if you favor a U.S. version of the President of Iran as the leader of our secular republic. But, if Santorum becomes president we might not be a secular republic anymore, but a version of a theocratic republic. Make no mistake, someone like Santorum is very much in favor of promoting his religious and moral values over the values of everyone else. In fact, he has said just that. For example he said during a campaign event in Iowa last week:

"Don’t give me this idea — I hear this: ‘Oh, you’re a moralist. You’re trying to impose your values.’ Everybody’s trying to impose their values. That’s what America’s about."

Yes, imposing his values means not only opposition to gay rights but using the police to arrest and lock up gay men for consensual gay sex. Santorum's hatred of homosexuality (and maybe gays themselves) is only rivaled by Fred "hates F-gs" Phelps. So, theocracy took a big step on this past Tuesday, can we stop it?
