Is America Doomed-You Decide
Bank Failures, An Endless War, Corporate lobbyists, extreme right wing ideologues in both parties, advocates of Assassinating the President of The United States, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, all given rise to popularity by extremely dumb and uninformed people, gun toters at Obama events, Cheering because we lose the Olympics and much more.. Now I will tell you something America. I sometimes write my Opinions tongue in cheek but we are now at a crossroads in this country where we had all better start asking ourselves; And our Neighbors some serious questions.
The First? Are you for or against America. We have allowed all of the above, and much more it seems, simply because we have not allowed ourselves to become a portion of the larger debate. We have allowed the Enemies of America; The Health Insurance Companies, The Major Banking and Investment Corporations and many more lead us down the road to the studios where the Becks, Limbaughs and Hannnitys rage. We have allowed our Banks, Our Insurance Companies, Indeed Corporate America to stick Guns in our faces and threaten to blow out our brains if we do not comply. And what is Compliance.? Sixteen debut card charges for a glass of milk, a cookie, totaling 35.00 or more. No Medical Insurance because of a pre-existing condition (Like acne when you were in puberty) for Corporate Producers of Food and Livestock making us sicker with the ever larger amounts of pesticides and Poisons they designate for hugher profits and larger Balls on Cows.. Droughts and Climate change, shrinking Arctic Ice, Massive floodwaters, Huge Dust storms, many more climatic calamities squeeezing their way into your childrens futures along with the plus $40,000.00 they already owe for Government deficits as they exist the womb..
Sorry folks-No tongue in cheek here. We ar4e in serious trouble with just about every Brain dead character running our National Government, Including Most members of The US Congress (Both Sides, running our major Institutions like finance and the Corporate structure so paralyzed by its needed five o clock alcohol pick me up that some of them start before 11AM in the morning.
Solutions? You need to decide what you are going to do about all of this. You need to decide like what wackos you wish to continue listening to. Limbaugh Beck, Imus, Hannity, Olberman (though I count Olberman at least for having a platform to bring wrongs directly to us and for spelling out a case for the seeds of another revolution (If that is what you are seeking Mr and Mrs America??) You need to decide if Chase or Bank of America or any other Bank is going to be allowed to withdraw 35,00 of your hard earned money (with a minus column of $500.00) to charge you 34.00 for a cup of coffee, bottle of Aspirin or whether you are just going to close shop with them and go to hell. Higher Rates on your credit cards because of one missed payment-Kill the card-default on them by the millions. Can you do that? You have the reins America but if you refuse to pick them up and steer the Carriage you are quickly headed down the road to complete and utter devastation without remorse. Many of you allowed George W Bush to railroad you and frighten you to death. Have you become so timid you are like mice with their legs cut off? You allowed this America and do not forget it. You lost your House? Tough kadoodle. You allowed the powers to be to hoodwink you and forgot about the basics taugh in Grade School.
Finally for those of you who live in the hinterlands of extreme right wing lolly gogging I reserve the most scorn for you. For you see, I have never liked you because you are lazy. You have no minds of your own so you let demogogues carry your load. And you sit by your little chairs with your transister playing yukking up to the drug addict Limbaugh only because you may be into Trailer Trash heroine yourself. You have no mind or thoughts of your own so you choose quacks like Inhofe of Oklahoma who deliberately Lies along with his mafia associates called Republican leaders in The House and Senate who spoon feed you pablum. Until you stand up and think for yourself you have no voice in any debate . You can uff and puff at this piece until the few remaining working parts of your brains become excavated but it will do you no good because you are meaningless in any debate. You have lived your lives with your head in the sand and been Indoctrinated byall the haters of the world since your childhood.
So America-You decide. Are we doomed as a nation or-Do you wish to TRY standing together once again as "WE THE PEOPLE"

Not doomed. IMHO. Just growing up and going through a gawky stage. The US is a young nation, it is going to lose its way from time to time in the process. It needs like all teenagers to learn it is not invincible, restraint and the value of measured judgment. It will get there, in the interim, we have to have patience until it matures

Good opinion piece
at 20:13 on October 7th, 2009
The excesses you are describing are like growing pains, and this economic cycle is more painful than anyone in my generation has experienced, so we are cranky and don't like it. We like our Republic to be friendly and approachable and give us what we need when we need it.
Americans love to work, and when you take the work away, they don't just lose money, they lose self respect as well. Then the hostility and anger take over and finding someone, anyone to blame out of frustration is what we are seeing with a lot of the unrest. Most people know someone who has been adversely effected by the economy. In my own family, I find myself giving assurance that this is temporary, and everything is going to be better. We just need to be patient, and do the best you can for now, and never give up on yourself.
The same sentiments can be said about our country.
at 06:19 on October 8th, 2009
This is a very logical response and well thought out in the wording of you're thoughts. But the question needs to be asked-"what got us here" with so many people out of work? Why do people lose self respect because they lose their jobs?? They are NOT their Jobs and they are NOT their money. Basic Principles and sustained values of those principles should be the primary foundation of our young Republic. The level which we have now arrived where the corruption, greed, seeking of power overwhelms all is the stuff that gives root to Revolution. Tea Party participants, Town Hall meetings where Big Money and Corporate influence is the trigger behind all that is said is just totally unacceptable! I agree with being patient but when No Institution is held accountable for being the root Cause of so much misery then we know-as a young Republic or Old-our culture has deteriorated into a cesspool of oligarchs where the few control the many.

I agree with most comments in this thread. America is still in an infant stage with two competing ideologies, the one on the far left and the one on the far right. Like most Western Democracies, eventually I suspect America will end up somewhere in the middle, disregarding the far left and far right ideologies.
American media does not necessarily contribute to the maturing process in America.
America will come of age though, this economic crisis has brought many of the problems to the forefront.

Nice rant!
"Finally for those of you who live in the hinterlands of extreme right wing lolly gogging I reserve the most scorn for you. For you see, I have never liked you because you are lazy. You have no minds of your own so you let demogogues carry your load."
Now, before you accuse others of being "lazy" or for "lolly gogging", you might to want spend just a few minutes learning the basics of things like spelling and punctuation.
Then, spend a few more minutes, formulating an original (or at least, semi-original), line of thought.
Simply rehashing liberal whines and talking points, whilst mangling grammar, will cause others to presume that you are not only lazy, but have in fact been listening to left-leaning demagogues.
Worse, they will assume that your ignorance is greater than your arrogance.
at 06:21 on October 8th, 2009
You have no room for debate in this. I simply wrote the truth which is clear enough for all to see despite the mishaps in grammar.
at 07:21 on October 8th, 2009
bpulhem your frustration is quite understandable even for me as an outsider. It was the old boys Wall Street network that with their reckless manipulations caused this financial crisis in the first place. Lending money to people from which they knew they wouldn't be able to repay the loan not even the interest on it, that at the time were peanuts too. But all is a fabrication to keep their own buddies in charge. Which idiot is providing bailout money without putting adequate requirements for re-regulation, change of management and so on. Only your government, because Paulson as Treasurer at the time was involved in one of the banks that should lose billions form another as the last one went broke. Nothing better to use someone else's money to bail yr friends out. Government is lying to you! And the banks have no respect for you that's why they charge you with fantasy expenses for their lousy service as account holder. The same here is happening. It makes you really sick.

I really appreciate your comments on this issue and this Opinion article. In essence-this is a scenario that began over four decades ago with the destruction of long standing Banking Regulations (Specifically-Abolishing the Glass Steagull Act and others) along with the Rage from the Right Wing Establishment during the cultural revolution of the 1960's. My amazement at our cultural attitude today allowing the likes of the lowest of low life personalities to occupy high profile media positions (Beck Limbaugh Hannity and others)to engage in advocating failure of our Governing Leaders is astounding! This in turn has given rise to even more virulence with psychopaths using the Blogosphere to encourage Assassination of our President! I may not like the policies of my Government or; the Governments of other countries, but to advocate killing them is pure lunacy. In summary-many folks on the Fringe Right take issue with my comments but I believe it is time we began coming down Hard on these Know Nothing fringe radicals and expose their stupidity to the world.

Nice "rant" :)
at 09:27 on October 8th, 2009
Thank you. Define "rant".
at 00:40 on October 9th, 2009
Rant (from Webster)
intransitive verb
1 : to talk in a noisy, excited, or declamatory manner
2 : to scold vehemently
transitive verb : to utter in a bombastic declamatory fashion
at 09:45 on October 8th, 2009
You should trace it back all the way the great Abraham Lincoln, who started us all on this path when he instituted the National Banking Act in order to fund the Civil War, which the Northern States did not wish to do.
He may have freed the slaves, but he put us all on the path to slavery to do it. Destroyed half the country and is responsible for hundreds of thousands deaths.
Just think if he could have found a way to reconcile the freaked out Southern States, and maybe purchased the freedoms of slaves, where our country would be today.
at 13:39 on October 8th, 2009
Basically-we can trace it back to when someone discovered Money as a Bludgeon instead of a tool. For the life of me however, I cannot digest the ideas of Fringe radicals be they left or right. As a student of the Banking Industry (I wrote-and had published-many articles on Banking during the 1980's) and it seems that the Right were so wrong in Deregulating all that kept everything in check, It has been written here (In some comments) that we are going through a growing phase. Fine-That; anyone can deal with. But when the tenor of debate becomes so hate inspired as to advocate destruction then, any individual with the smallest amount of writing talent needs to step up to the Plate. And confront them. Then Force them into civil debate.

Maybe the solution lies in voting Libertarian.
at 20:05 on October 8th, 2009
Sorry, much as I like your cultural articles (Latin American issues), I disagree here. Libertarian political views have yet to convince me.
at 13:42 on October 8th, 2009
I think dismemberment (Of BOTH leading Parties) needs to be central in future change. Then allow the Libertarians, Independents and other groups to become involved. None however should have any ties whatever to those who seek their power through wealth exchange.
at 15:27 on October 8th, 2009
Any one can be involved. It is called voting. In the meantime, we are all free to voice our opinion, hence this venue.
If no one did business with those that they deemed corrupt, if no one borrowed money from the banks - or used their credit cards, the banks would beg for our business. If no one voted for politicians that do all the things that you say they do, they wouldn't get elected. So, go, go convince folks that your way is better than what they are doing now. If you are concerned about the ice caps melting, make some ice cubes.
While many may agree with your anger, i doubt that "dismemberment" will happen. If it did, the ensuing chaos might cause you to change your mind, and attitude.
After reading your statement "Then Force them into civil debate.", i have to ask, is that at all civil? I mean, really.
Seriously, how will you argue with someone that disagrees with you, if they are as you state, "meaningless in any debate"? Will you debate only those that agree with you, or should we simply bow our heads before your great wisdom?
at 17:55 on October 8th, 2009
Mr. H.A. My comments to your comment was short, abrupt and to the point as it appears clear to me that you seek to argue and engage in your very own personal agenda(fueled by a similar anger) rather than debate anything. I am used to critiques like yours, For they force me to examine more carefully my personal beliefs and precepts. You seem rather smug and contemptuous in your remarks. The remarks take a position of smearing the messenger instead of trying to comprehend the message. Hence, my being dismissive. I might suggest go to these hinterlands I mentioned. (I have been there) It may be wise to lather and shave away the obvious disregard and hatred you have for liberals before you start attacking grammatical errors of a written piece which dissects and tosses away all your rationale for argument to begin with. In summary-the so called little snub of Ice Cubes visa-vie The Ice Caps melting. What world do you live in and do you even have the capability of understanding the issues discussed in my article? Feel free to live above us low life liberals and our concerns. But do so at your own risk.

"My comments to your comment was short, abrupt and to the point as it appears clear to me that you seek to argue and engage in your very own personal agenda(fueled by a similar anger) rather than debate anything."
a) what is your point?
b) explain my "agenda", if you would....i wasn't aware that i had one in this instance.
c) "you seek to argue....rather than debate anything". Hopefully, you are aware that debate is a form of argument.
"I might suggest go to these hinterlands I mentioned. (I have been there)"
Go there? I live there.
"It may be wise to lather and shave away the obvious disregard and hatred you have for liberals"
Please give an example of this "obvious disregard and hatred". Please show me where i have exhibited this attitude or behavior. If it is as "obvious" as you claim, it should be easy to find.
"a written piece which dissects and tosses away all your rationale for argument to begin with."
Explain what my rationale was, and show us where you dissected it.
"In summary-the so called little snub of Ice Cubes visa-vie The Ice Caps melting."
Parse this sentence, please. I tried, but it gave me a headache.
"What world do you live in and do you even have the capability of understanding the issues discussed in my article?"
a) I live in the real world. 10-12 hour workdays, another kid that needs braces, and a paycheck that gets eaten up by taxes.
b) Yes, i understand the issues you "discussed". They are discussed almost everywhere, almost every day, by almost everyone in this country - including us yahoos out in the "hinterlands". Sometimes, they are discussed not only intelligently, but civilly as well.
"Feel free to live above us low life liberals and our concerns."
"I believe it is time we began coming down Hard on these Know Nothing fringe radicals and expose their stupidity to the world."
"you are lazy. You have no minds of your own"
You call others "Know Nothing...radicals", "lazy...with no minds of their own", reference their "stupidity", then accuse me of somehow being above liberals? That is extremely funny, in an odd sort of way.
So, how is the Bronx these days? Still got that Beirut, Lebanon-Civil-War kind of look goin' on?
at 13:16 on October 9th, 2009
had you pegged from the start. Thats why I dismissed you. Good luck with your very small world and even smaller circle of think-alikes Oh the Bronx? Funny I had that feeling passing through Utah some time ago. Far more dangerous than the Bronx. Not the animals but some of the human variety. You will be very pleased to read my future articles.

"For you see, I have never liked you because you are lazy. " Funny how the Republican Party is generally not at all composed of the demographics that are best known for free-loading. Rather, the Republican Party tends to be strongest in states with low rates of unemployment, low taxation, and hard working, middle-income earning individuals. The left, on the other hand, seems far more composed of the urbanite, hedonistic swine so full of itself as to conjure up a self-image of being the "elite" (whatever that may be) and the non-working class. That is to say, the free loaders. You live in quite the little dreamworld, my friend. Quite frankly, I'm surrounded by doctors on a daily basis. Namely, because I am one. We're not big fans of leftists. We're the hardest working, smartest group of people you'll come across. And we're heavily Republican. We busted our butts getting to where we're going, and we'd expect as much of anyone else. That sort of demographic doesn't take kindly to the left, its excuses, and its attempts to mold the United States away from its independent and freedom-loving, government-fearing origins. Nor of creating a permanent underclass subservient to the whims of the government, which is exactly what the leftists have been up to. My response to your rant about "debut cards," chemicals in the food, and the like? Well, don't get a debit (or I assume that's where you were going with that) card, pay your bills on time, or don't spend more than you earn. Rough concept, eh? And as for the chemicals in food, well, raise your own. You speak of taking control of something, but really from reading this rather aimless piece, I'm left with no real point other than 1) Corporations bad 2) Don't listen to Limbaugh 3) Credit bad I'm wholly unimpressed and wholly uninspired. As for the dust storms and the melting ice caps, they've been doing that for time immemorium, and so they shall when you and I are gone. Might I ask you why you continue to buy into this babble when 1) global temperatures have been cooling for several consecutive years now 2) the models creating this Chicken Little model of climate change are again and again wrong--rather, not even close.

Good posts Hugh Askew and Cmartel2. It warms my heart to know there are still some intelligent, hard working, realist folks out there. I'm in the Army, and it is "strongly encouraged" that I not publicly display my political affiliation or my disapproval of current policy/my Command in Chief...so keep up the good work and continue to do it for me. Our culture? Doomed? Maybe...maybe not. But even if it isn't doomed, I think it's gonna get a LOT, LOT worse before it even BEGINS to get better...IF (and that's a GREAT BIG IF!) it ever DOES get better at all...but if it DOESN'T EVER "get better" again...well...I don't know...we might as well all start digging six-foot holes in the ground for ourselves, climb in, tuck our heads between our legs, say "it's been fun to be alive"...AND PREPARE TO KISS ALL OF OUR SWEET A##ES GOODBYE!!! :-(
