American Family Association boycotts McDonalds for ties with gay group
The US Christian group that pressured Heinz to pull an UK commercial featuring two men kissing is now targeting McDonald's, accusing the fast-food chain of refusing "to remain neutral in the culture war".
The American Family Association began a boycott campaign against McDonald's in response to the company's membership in the Washington-based National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).
The AFA is promoting its boycott, including an online anti-McDonald's petition, to its more than 2.5 million members.
"This boycott is not about hiring homosexuals. It is not about homosexuals eating at McDonald's," the AFA states on its BoycottMcDonalds.com website.
"McDonald's has chosen … to give the full weight of their corporation to promoting the homosexual agenda, including homosexual marriage."

julianw, I like this story. It's good stuff.
Isn't boycotting Maccy-D's "un-American"?
Who'da thunk it, that Christian fundamentalists would turn out to be pinko commies!
OMG - I never thought I'd find myself in the position of supporting McD. What is the world coming to?

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard in a long time. McDonald's is an American company...quite possibly, THE American company and it has grown in many ways as the country has grown, and if this is part of it, so be it. If the AMA wants to boycott McDonald's for this reason and not the fact that its food is unhealthy and bad quality, it seems to me they need to get their priorities straight.

can you imagine how many hamburgers people would eat if they were still only 15 cents?

The American Family Association appears to have less and less meaning every time they pull something like this. What ever happend to Christians acting like Christians, teaching their children right from wrong, showing moral values, explaining that other people make some non-traditional choices but that doesn't necessairly mean that it is okay.
Instead, this group must assert it's idea of what is good and right on others through their publicity stunts, boycotts, and press releases. This time it is the gays that this Christian group decided to attack (and quite frankly, I don't care what people do in their bedroom as long as they close their doors and shut their binds).
So, who would Jesus boycott?
Personaly, I boycott McDonalds for the following reasons (none of the many reasons having anything to do with homosexuality):
*McDonalds promotes and is a material party to identity theft and fraud as repoted very recently in the media. Within the last couple of weeks, reports point out that a company that owns 11 McDonald's restaurants in the US will be forece to pay $1 million fine for giving illegal immigrants false Social Security numbers. THATS RIGHT... OWNER/OPERATORS OF MCDONALDS RESTAURANT GIVING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS FALSE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS!!!
*McDonalds seems to hire based on race: There have been some studies that point to McDonald's disproportionately hiring Hispanic workers in Connecticut. Simple observation would lead one to believe that they are very clearly hiring people on the basis of race, giving one race preferential treatment over others.
*McDonalds food is horribly unhealthy.
*McDonalds restaurants has been known to hire illegal immigrants in the United States in violation of local, state, and federal law.
*McDonalds has fought tooth and nail to ensure that working people do not have the right to unionize.
*McDonalds strongly markets their unhealthy food SPECIFICALLY at children with lures of toys, clowns, promotions very similar to gambling, and other marketing ploys.
*Customer service at McDonalds restaurants is absolutely abysmal and in many areas of the United States, where Englis is the common language, it is difficult to get any service in the language of the country.
*McDonalds restaurants are generally a little bit dirty and poorly cleaned. This causes me to fear the safety of the food.
*McDonalds restaurants do not serve Pepsi or Diet Pepsi. All you can get is Coke.
*McDonalds has a very strong history of poor treatment of employees, providing the lowest wages allowed by law, fighting for lower wages, and hiring upwards of 80% of workers for part time work only. Their employee turnover rate is incredibly high.
*McDonalds- there are many reasons to boycott... and this "Christian" group never mentioned any of them. People deserve to be treated fairly and equally no matter what race, creed, sex, country of origin, or sexual orientiation they may have.

Here's a shot of a McDonald's sign that was taken eleven years ago in Guangzhou, China. The only connection with the story is that most, if not all, of the members of the AFA have not eaten here.

This is the McDonald's in the Kuala Lumpur, Malyasia airport. The food tastes exactly the same as in the U.S. They do offer something different called a beef rollover. It looked like a pita pocket with meat on top. Tasty?

I took this photo in Holland on my recent trip in May. I like to take photos of common trademarks that are in older buildings. I find it odd to see these in places where one would think that they shouldn't be there. I always thought of McDonalds as an American institution, not Dutch!! Anyway, they are everywhere!!
